Before You Set Sail – Important Information on Safety and Rental

At Ebeltoft Boat Rental, we strive to give you a safe and enjoyable experience on the water. Therefore, we always provide a thorough introduction before you depart – and we recommend that you arrive about 10 minutes before your scheduled departure so we have time to review safety, nautical charts, and practical details.
Before booking, it is important that you have read and accepted our rental terms and rules. These are designed for your safety and to ensure a great experience for everyone.

Who Can Rent – and What Are the Requirements?

  • You must be at least 18 years old to rent and operate a boat.
  • Valid photo ID (passport or driver’s license) must be presented at rental and brought to the harbor.
  • The boat operator is responsible for operating the boat correctly and in accordance with current maritime regulations.
  • Before departure, we always review the depths, nautical charts, and relevant conditions of the waters.
  • You may not leave the boat unattended unless otherwise agreed.

When You Are on the Water

  • Only sail during daylight – between sunrise and sunset, unless you have booked the boat for multiple days.
  • Always maintain at least 2 meters of water under the keel.
  • It is forbidden to haul the boat onto beaches or land.
  • Music systems must not be audible from shore.
  • Life jackets must be onboard, and we recommend wearing them throughout the trip.
  • Environmental care is important – never throw trash, cigarette butts, or similar into the water.
  • Keep a safe distance – at least 30 meters from other boats.
  • The blood alcohol limit on the water is the same as on land.

Speed and Navigation Restrictions

  • Maximum speed in the harbor and within the marked area in Ebeltoft Vig Wildlife Reserve is 5 knots (approximately 9.3 km/h). Please show consideration by keeping speed low to protect wildlife, the environment, and other sailors.
  • Sailing in areas marked with red shading is prohibited due to very shallow water. If you enter this area and damage the boat’s propeller or drive, you will be held financially responsible for repairs or replacement.

Returning the Boat

  • The rental period counts from the time you leave until you return – each hour equals 60 minutes of sailing.
  • Delays cost DKK 250 per started 15 minutes.
  • The boat must be returned clean and tidy. Sand, seaweed, food residue, and trash will incur a cleaning fee of DKK 400.
  • Damages and deep scratches that cannot be polished will be charged at DKK 1,500 per 5 cm.
  • Boats must be returned to the designated spot in the harbor.
  • Upon return, we will quickly inspect the boat together with you to ensure everything is in order so your deposit can be released.

Fuel

  • All boats include 20 liters of gasoline in the rental. Remaining fuel is not refundable.
  • Additional fuel can be purchased (5L and 10L containers available).

Safety Equipment Onboard

All our boats are equipped with the necessary safety equipment so you can enjoy your trip with peace of mind. Onboard you will find:

  • Life jackets for all passengers
  • First aid kit
  • Small fire extinguisher
  • Spare can with 5 liters of gasoline
  • Emergency flares and distress rockets
  • Fish knife (for removing fishing nets stuck in the propeller)
  • Boat hook and anchor
  • Safety equipment is to be used only in emergencies.

We review the equipment with you before departure, so you know where everything is and how to use it in an emergency.

Responsibility and Liability

  • The renter has full responsibility for the boat, motor, and equipment – also if damage occurs without fault.
  • If accidents or damage occur to other property, the renter must exchange information with the other party.
  • If the renter is hit by another boat, it is the renter’s responsibility to obtain information about the other party – otherwise, insurance coverage may be void.
  • In case of search operations due to lack of contact, the renter will be charged for the expenses.

Insurance – Peace of Mind on the Water

All our boats are fully covered by all-risk insurance, which covers the boat, passengers, and onboard equipment (the insurance does not cover personal belongings you bring). This means you can enjoy your trip with peace of mind – we have taken care of safety in case of accidents.
Note: The renter is liable for a DKK 5,000 deductible in case of damage to the boat or equipment.

Rules for Renting Transparent Canoes at Ebeltoft Boat Rental

We look forward to sending you on an adventure in our transparent canoes! To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, please follow these simple guidelines:

  • Stay close to the shore – max 100 meters from land, and avoid the shipping channel. If crossing it, do so quickly and carefully.
  • Check the weather before your trip – wind and currents can change rapidly.
  • Use the equipment responsibly. Please protect the canoe by steering clear of stones and other objects that can scratch it – so it stays beautiful for you and the next guests.
  • Return the canoe and equipment on time – no later than 8:00 PM unless otherwise agreed.
  • Take good care of the equipment – the canoes are not insured, so lost or damaged equipment must be compensated.
  • To keep the canoes nice for everyone, please kindly remove shoes and other footwear before boarding – they can cause small scratches on the bottom.
  • Use is at your own risk, so remember your own accident insurance should cover any incidents.

We reserve the right to cancel rentals in case of bad weather or unsafe conditions – your safety always comes first.
